Masks are recommended by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) for those who are fully vaccinated as well as those who are not fully vaccinated. The obligation to wear a mask has one again become mandatory in a vast majority of public spaces and stores, after the recent outbreak of the COVID variant Omicron. The masks are part of a global strategy of measures to help reduce the transmission and save lives. Other simple precautions (mentioned in pointers above) are other ways to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Medical masks (also called surgical masks) are loose fitting disposable masks. They filter out large particles in the air when inhaling and also protect the wearer from any contact with droplets/spray that may contain germs.
For a more fitted mask, the ear loops can be knotted where they attach to the mask. Then tuck and fold the unwanted material under the edges.
An N95 mask is a type of respirator. These masks filter out both large and small particles when the wearer inhales, therefore they offer more protection than the medical masks. According to the CDC, the N95 surgical mask should be reserved for health care providers.
Like surgical masks, N95 are meant to be disposable. However, researchers are working on methods to reuse and disinfect them.
A majority of N95 masks have valves to make them easier to breathe through. Unfortunately though, these masks have been banned in some places due to air not filtering the air when the wearer exhales.
A cloth mask acts as a barrier to protect the wearer from inhaling droplets from others. It also traps respiratory droplets that are released when the wearer talks, sneezes or coughs.
The more layers a cloth mask has, the more effective it is at preventing droplets from getting through your mask.
People in quarantine should stay home, avoid any contact with others, monitor themselves, follow directions from their local health department and take regular LFD home tests (Lateral Flow Device). If you develop any symptoms, then book a PCR Test.
